I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because...
Many might know Sidney’s story from last years Walk for Epilepsy but for Sidney, like many epilepsy warriors, his case is complex and ever changing. It seems like a lifetime ago in June 2023 when Sid was initially diagnosed epilepsy which proved quickly to be drug resistant. Fast forward since last October and we have tried more drugs, Keto to try and control his seizures. He has since been re- diagnosed with Myclonic Atonic Epilepsy or Doose Syndrome. A rare form of epilepsy which only affects 1-2% of all children diagnosed with epilepsy- making him one of only a few hundred of kids with Doose in Australia. I’m aiming to walk or run (depending on the days energy) 5kms a day between 1-25th October to raise awareness for the rarer forms of epilepsy which add an additional layer of complications to an already unpredictable and life changing diagnosis. There is still so much unknown about Sids condition and how to cure it. Every dollar counts towards research in helping kids like Sidney get relief and hopefully a solution to such a cruel condition.
