I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because...

I want to raise money and make a difference for people living with epilepsy.  Our son Aiden has recently been diagnosed and it has impacted his life and will continue to impact his life.  Please help me by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button. Aiden’s Journey

Wednesday 30th Sep
Our son Aiden has recently been diagnosed with Focal Epilepsy. It began one night as he went to sleep. Aiden found that he couldn’t speak, breathe properly or move. He tried to call for help, but was unable to call out. His whole body started to shake and his mouth filled with saliva. After the shaking stopped, Aiden tried to get out of bed to get help. His right side wasn’t working properly and he was drooling and slurring, as well as banging into walls. 

After finding help, Aiden was assessed at the hospital for a stroke and an MRI was conducted. Thankfully it was all clear.   We started to relax, as the doctors thought it may have been a once off, but two weeks later, another seizure occurred. This time, Aiden was in with us and we could help him stay safe as his whole body started to shake again. 

The hospital conducted an EEG within a few days of this seizure and a diagnosis was confirmed. As an active and avid surfer, this has impacted Aiden’s life immensely. He cannot surf, climb or bike ride until he is stable on his new medication. We aren’t sure whether this is lifelong or childhood.  

He had a setback in the last couple of weeks with his medication. Aiden was one of only 3% of people who have an allergic reaction to his particular medication. As a result, he was immediately removed off his medication and put on a new one. He has just moved to a full dose of his new medication in the last couple of days.
