My Story ❤️
In 2020 I was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 12. During my first seizure, I was found on my bed choking on blood and gagging on two of my teeth that had been knocked out. I was unconscious as my parents called an ambulance. I woke up in the hospital and had no idea what had happened.
About 2 hours later when I came back home my mum explained what had just happened. After that first seizure, we went to different doctors and both of them said that it was lack of food and water I had that day. After three more months, we had an appointment with a specialist who explained to us that if I had another seizure I would be diagnosed with epilepsy.
About 20 mins later whilst we are driving home from that exact appointment I went numb all over and collapsed into another seizure. I woke up at home and I had already known what had happened. We called the specialist and they immediately diagnosed me with epilepsy.
In 2022 I was seizure free for about 2 years and my specialist recommended I could come of my medication. 2 weeks after not taking any meds until I had a focal on set seizure which means I was awake and could see and feel things but couldn’t move my body. This sparked 2 more seizures after that and I was immediately put back on my medication.
Now in 2024 I am on my medication (most likely for life) and have been seizure free since 2022! I hope my story encourages others to take part in this walk for epilepsy and brings more awareness for the condition ❤️
