A BIG THANK YOU + KM’s Walked So Far

Friday 4th Oct
To all my lovely sponsors, thank you so much for donating to such a fantastic cause, a cause you all know is very close to my heart. I’m so grateful to each of you for your generous contributions.

So far in October, despite being on holiday, I have already walked 27.5km’s out of 150. When I return to Melbourne, I am planning to walk a 4-hour coastal trail in one morning, with a few other long distance trails planned throughout the first 25 days of the month. Photos to come! Can’t wait to share photos wearing my Walk for Epilepsy merchandise as well.

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate you all.

Our Journey with Epilepsy

Thursday 5th Sep
This October, I’m walking to raise awareness and support for epilepsy research in honor of my amazing 3 year old daughter, Lily. Our journey with epilepsy began when Lily was just 9 months old, and it’s one we will never forget.

We were returning from a weekend away on my birthday in March 2022, when Lily had her first seizure. She turned purple, went limp and stopped breathing. We rushed her to the hospital, where her oxygen levels dropped dangerously low and she seized multiple times on the way. Due to Covid, an overloaded hospital and staff shortages, it took a while before she was seen by medical teams, all the while unconscious and limp. It’s all a blur, but I recall being terrified and desperate for her to be seen. She was eventually rushed into the rescus area where she was worked on by several doctors. I can’t describe the feeling of watching your little baby, unconscious, on a stretcher, being surrounded by strangers and not being able to do anything to help. We watched as they struggled to find a vein in her tiny arms and administered emergency epilepsy medication intravenously. Before long she came around, which was a huge relief, and it wasn’t long before she was smiling her big, happy smile once again. After a week of tests and a long hospital stay, Lily was diagnosed with focal epilepsy caused by a brain malformation that likely developed in utero. In those early days, doctors were considering serious life limiting genetic conditions, which sent me into constant anxiety and fear for her future.

Two years on, we’ve had many ups and downs, including invasive tests, several hospital stays and many neurologist appointments, however, Lily continues to defy the odds. Her epilepsy will be lifelong, but we are so lucky to say it is well managed and under control. She’s a bright, happy, active and funny little girl. She loves to dance, sing, and her infectious personality brings so much joy to everyone she meets. She’s also hitting all her developmental milestones, something that fills us with pride every day. Her dad and I couldn’t be more proud of her resilience and progress.

Lily is the reason I’m walking for epilepsy—to honor her strength, raise awareness for others impacted by this condition, and fund more research, education, and training. Every step is for her and the countless others who live with epilepsy daily. Thank you for your support.
