Why I’m Walking for Epilepsy 💜

Wednesday 30th Sep
This year, I’m walking for something that is very close to my heart — epilepsy awareness, support, education and research.

I’m walking for my daughter.

My daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy, and since that diagnosis, she has faced many challenges that come with living with this condition. Epilepsy is so much more than having seizures. It can bring uncertainty, fear, changes to everyday life and challenges that other people may not always see.
As a mum, watching your child face those challenges is incredibly difficult. You want to be able to protect your child from everything, but epilepsy is something we have had to learn to live with and navigate together.
That is one of the biggest reasons I’ve decided to take part in this walk.

But my reason doesn't stop with my daughter.

I am also a disability support worker, and through my work I have supported clients who also live with epilepsy. I have seen firsthand that every person's experience with epilepsy is different, but the need for understanding, patience, support and awareness is something we all share.
Working in the disability sector has given me an even greater understanding of how important it is to look beyond a diagnosis and see the person.

💜I’m walking for my daughter.
💜I’m walking for the people I support.
💜I’m walking for the families who worry about their loved ones.
💜I’m walking for the people who have experienced seizures and the challenges that can come with them.
💜I’m walking to help create greater understanding and reduce the fear and stigma that can surround epilepsy.
💜And I’m walking because I want to make a difference.

Through this walk, I hope to raise awareness and support the important work of the Epilepsy Foundation in New South Wales and Victoria, helping people living with epilepsy, their families and the wider community.

I know that one person walking cannot change everything. But I also believe that change starts with people being willing to speak up, share their experiences and take action.

So I’m putting one foot in front of the other — for my daughter, for the people I support, and for everyone whose life has been touched by epilepsy.
Every step counts. Every conversation helps. Every donation can contribute to making life better for people living with epilepsy.

Thank you for supporting me on this journey and helping me take these steps for something that means so much to me and my family.
