My Updates

Day 21! 4 days to go

Monday 21st Oct

Today is day 20 done and dusted. The past few days I've been battling with some personal issues and if I've learnt anything, it's that walking is very much healing for the soul. Im happy with myself for continuing to walk. Todays walk puts me at 78km, with 22km remaining and $51 still to raise to reach my target of raising $300 in honour of my precious Max

I am doing my part, if you'd like to make a contribution there is still 5 days left to make. Truly grateful for the support and love I have received thus far over my journey. Thankyou all for your generosity and kind words.

Day 17 & thankyou

Thursday 17th Oct
I am proud to announce that in my Maxxy's honour I have officially raised $300. This has only  made me more determined to continue.

Today, even though it may have just begun I have already seen and felt so many signs that Max is with me today. This is all for you my boy. I truly hope you're proud of me💜

Day 11💜 Missing Maxxy

Friday 11th Oct
Hello beautiful people🫶🏼
11 is a significant number for Maxxy and I. It was his number in basketball and since his passing I constantly see it everywhere whether it be in times, charging percentages, addresses and just everywhere in between honestly. I see the number 11 and know that he is with me.

*Today whist donating I got a bit ahead of myself and there are a few typos, so apologies*

After paying for my bills, rent etc I had a spare $25 left over that I wanted to donate for Maxxy. I truly hope I’m making you proud moonbaby and making a positive impact💜💜

Day 8💜

Tuesday 8th Oct
Hi loves,
Completed 4.26km walk today for day 8. Feeling so blessed to see so many beautiful purple flowers along the way.

Thankyou to everyone who has helped me get to my goal of raising $250. My heart feels so warm with support. Every cent is making an impact so again thankyou all so much. Next target is $300 let’s do this baby!!💜💜💜

Honouring my Maxxy

Sunday 6th Oct
Today is the 6th of October and the 8 month anniversary of my partners death. Learning to live without him is defintely something I never wanted to learn and am still struggling to do. Today I really wanted to stay motivated and get my 4kms in and I’m happy to report I completed a 4.30km walk.

My Maxxy was a beautiful human being.. Very reserved. Very few knew the real Max and I was lucky enough to be one of the people that he allowed into his heart. I could happily sit here and list a million reasons why I love that boy but what I will forever miss most besides the way that he loved me… is his smile. I would do anything in the world to see that smile one last time. I hope I’m making you proud precious boy.

Check in on your loved ones suffering and let them know how loved and appreciated they are. Hold them a little closer and a little tighter. I wouldn’t wish this pain upon anyone.

Ways to care for a loved one suffering from Epilepsy🧡

Saturday 5th Oct

Ways to care for loved ones suffering from Epilepsy:

• Keeping the individual safe during a seizure

• Calling for medical help, giving first aid or emergency medication

• Stay with the individual or seeing them home safely after a seizure or seizure like event

• Taking note of any patterns or triggers of the individuals seizures, which may help if they don’t recall the seizure/s/

• Aiding with their routine of taking anti-seizure medication (ASM)

• Going with them to appointments, helping to take notes, providing descriptions of seizures to the person with epilepsy and/or their medical care team

• In some cases, acting as a representative or advocate for the individual with their doctors and or others involved in their care plan

• Joining in with leisure activities that might pose a safety risk if they were to have a seizure, for example swimming, partying etc and providing transport if necessary

• Helping them to adapt their home or lifestyle to provide a safer living environment

• Checking in on the individual especially if there is that lack of a support system, asking what supports they may feel they need from you

• Not mistreating the individual or discriminating against them because of their diagnosis

• Educating yourself on Epilepsy, especially the form they suffer from

• Educating yourself on seizure first aid

Individuals with Epilepsy don’t want to be SEEN as their diagnosis. They want to feel safe in their surroundings, around the people they love and feel cared for. Try to keep in mind that their actions and or behaviours aren’t always directed towards you. Try to be mindful of what they’re carrying everyday mentally and physically.

EPILEPSY IS NOT A CHOICE

ACCEPTANCE IS🧡

Day 5💜

Saturday 5th Oct
Hello beautiful humans,
Day 5 is complete. 5km down today!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Throughout my journey I will continue to post new information ‘facts sheets’ that I’ve created to my gallery.  Whilst educating myself on Epilepsy I have learnt so much and feel that it needed to be shared. I welcome you to have a scroll through and hopefully learn something new.

A special thankyou for all the support I’ve received and to anyone participating in the walk this year we’re absolutely smashing it💜

Day 2💜

Wednesday 2nd Oct

Hello beautiful humans :))

Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP)

Tuesday 1st Oct
Sudden unexpected death in Epilepsy is a complication of living with this condition and refers to when an Epileptic individual dies suddenly with no cause to be found.

1 in 1000 individuals diagnosed with Epilepsy die each year from SUDEP.

Risk factors:
• Experiencing tonic clonic or grand mal seizures
• Having seizures from a young age
• Living with epilepsy for many years
• Being male
• Missing or misusing doses of seizure medication
• Living alone, having no support system

If untreated and improperly supported Epilepsy can be fatal.

The best way to support somebody with their Epilepsy is to listen to their needs and support what they’re asking of you. Check in on your loved ones who are suffering. Nobody deserves to suffer with this illness in silence💜💜

Making a difference for Maxxy

Thursday 26th Sep
Hi, all. If you’ve come across this page then welcome. I am very passionate about participating in this years walk for Epilepsy. I want to raise money and make a difference for people living with this condition. My partner passing away in February of this year, really motivated me to learn more about Epilepsy. I truly want to do all I can to make an impact even if that is just educating myself, others and spreading awareness. In 2019 alone, epilepsy contributed to 1,100 deaths in Australia which is heartbreaking.

Please help me by doing what you can. The more people that know about the walk, the greater the impact. Donations are not at all expected but extremely appreciated as I understand the money crisis has taken a toll🖤
