I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because...

2024 marks my 5th year anniversary of walking in the walk for Epilepsy.

But that means, it’s been four years without my sister Jade who passed away unexpectedly in her sleep. An otherwise healthy woman, only 37 years old.

It took our family months to get an answer of why Jade passed away. And that answer was SUDEP, Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy.

My purpose is to walk and raise money for this incredible cause and to raise awareness of SUDEP. 

If this fundraiser encourages one person to type SUDEP into google, or asks their doctor for more information, then Jade’s death wasn’t for nothing.

This year marks my fifth consecutive year participating in the #walkforepilespy, and I couldn’t be more proud to continue supporting this incredible cause. Each year, this walk not only raises awareness about epilepsy but also reminds me of the strength and resilience of those living with the condition. 

Walking alongside survivors, families, and advocates and hearing their stories has been an emotional and humbling experience. With every step, we’re helping to fund vital research and support programs that make a real difference in the lives of millions affected by epilepsy. 

Over the next 25 days I will be walking 150km’s in memory of my sister Jade, who passed away in 2020 from Sudden Unexpected Death of a Person with Epilepsy (SUDEP). Each year I sign up to honor Jade’s memory, reflect and remember the beautiful soul she was, and to raise awareness of SUDEP so other families don’t have to go through what my family did by losing their loved one unexpectedly.
