My Updates

Epilepsy

Thursday 19th Oct
This year Emily and I are walking for Epilepsy. If you sponsor us today the value of your sponsorship is doubled thanks to Nexon Asia Pacific. Epilepsy  is a disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures.
Epilepsy may occur as a result of a genetic disorder or an acquired brain injury, such as a trauma or stroke there is not yet enough research done to be sure.
I have Epilepsy. I have never had a drop seizure or tonic-clonic, maybe you have seen me have a seizure and not even realised as I can still walk and talk. When I was first diagnosed at the age of 11 I was having episodes of 2 to 3 seconds where I would stop conversations and would not remember what I was talking about. For many years my symptoms were well controlled by medication.
I now take different medications as my symptoms have changed even though I sometimes have abnormal brain waves I can still walk & talk. Epilepsy is many different things and different for many people. I don’t think that enough people and professionals know enough about the difference types of epilepsy. My epilepsy was never really spoken about until I met a very special person in my life that had epilepsy as well.
I have been accepted into a research program this year which is very exciting, not for me but for the future generations. It involves genetic testing. If you are part of my genetic family and would like to take part please swing me a message.
And please remember 1 in 25 people will have a seizure.
