πŸ’œπŸ‘Ÿ A broken toe, a moonboot and a mission! πŸ˜‚

I'm swapping my usual shoes for a moonboot (thanks to a broken toe!) and joining Team Epilepsy Queensland for Walk for Epilepsy!

I'm here to raise some money, spread awareness and support people living with epilepsy and their families.

But I'm not just looking for donations! I'm also looking for walking buddies, motivational cheerleaders and people willing to hold me accountable when the couch starts looking a little too inviting. πŸ˜‚

πŸ’œ Donate if you can – every little bit helps!
πŸ‘Ÿ Come for a walk with me – once my foot cooperates!
πŸ“£ Share my page – help spread the word!

Whether you donate $5, share this page or join me for a stroll, you're helping make a difference.

A little broken, a little booted, but still walking for epilepsy! πŸ’œ

Thank you for being part of my journey. Every step counts! x

Day 9 – Dogs, Lakes & Conversations That Matter πŸ’œπŸΎ

Friday 9th Oct
Day 9, and today turned into a pretty bloody good walking day! πŸ˜‚

I started with a cheeky 2.5km wander around Burrows Spit in Kelso with Bruce. Just me, the dog and another chance to get some kilometres in. 🐢

But the real highlight of the day was heading over to Riverway for a beautiful 4km walk around Riverway and the lake with Donna and her daughter. πŸŒΏπŸ’œ

Donna was diagnosed with epilepsy as a child, and we had such a lovely, open conversation about her journey and experiences living with epilepsy.

These are the conversations that make this challenge mean so much more to me. Yes, I'm out here trying to smash 100km before the 25th, and yes, my broken toe is still making its opinions known πŸ˜‚ β€” but raising awareness is about so much more than counting steps.

It's about listening to people's stories, understanding that everyone's experience with epilepsy is different, and making space for conversations that might not otherwise happen.

I'm so grateful Donna shared part of her journey with me today. It's a beautiful reminder that behind the awareness campaigns, statistics and fundraising targets are real people with real experiences.

And honestly, a walk with good company and a meaningful conversation makes those kilometres fly by!

Today's kilometres: 6.5km πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ
Total so far: ? km

One thing's for sure: today wasn't just about getting my steps in. It was about connection, sharing stories and remembering why I'm doing this in the first place. πŸ’œ

If you'd like to support my Walk for Epilepsy challenge, even a small donation helps. Every bit of support is appreciated!

Day 8 – Taking It Easy (Well, Trying To πŸ˜‚) πŸ’œ

Friday 9th Oct
Day 8 of my Walk for Epilepsy challenge, and today was a very modest 1km walk.

My toe has been feeling pretty sore, so I decided to take it easy rather than push myself too hard. As much as I’d love to smash out the kilometres every day, apparently my broken toe would like to have a say in this challenge too. πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

Not every day is going to be a big adventure or a massive kilometre count, and that’s okay! Sometimes showing up means knowing when to slow down and giving your body a bit of a break.

I’ve still got my 100km goal to reach by the 25th, so there are definitely more walks and adventures ahead. Hopefully my toe decides to cooperate soon! 🀞

πŸ’œ Today’s total: 1km
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ The mission: 100km for epilepsy awareness and support.

Every kilometre counts, even the little ones! πŸ’œ

Day 7 – 34km down, 66km to go! πŸ’œ

Wednesday 7th Oct
Day 7 and another 5km done! πŸ™Œ

Today I headed out for a wander around Anderson Gardens. Nothing too crazy, just a nice walk, some fresh air and a chance to enjoy being outside while ticking a few more kilometres off the challenge.

I’m officially over a third of the way there now, which feels pretty good!

It’s funny looking back at the first week because the walks have been so different β€” family adventures, playgrounds, Riverway, walking with Bruce and now a wander through the gardens.

No fancy training plan. Just me finding little opportunities to get moving and somehow convincing myself that walking 100km was a good idea. πŸ˜‚

5km today. 34km total. 66km to go! πŸ’œ

Slowly getting there, one walk (and one slightly questionable decision to keep walking with a broken toe) at a time. πŸ˜‚

Day 6 – 29km down, 71km to go! πŸ’œ

Wednesday 7th Oct
Today was a much quieter one.

No big adventure, no kids dragging me in 15 different directions πŸ˜‚ β€” just me, Bruce and a little 3km wander around the neighbourhood.

It wasn’t a huge walk, but it still counts! And I’m learning that this challenge isn’t about making every day impressive. Some days it’s sunflower farms and goats, other days it’s literally just walking around the neighbourhood with the dog. πŸ˜‚

The important thing is that I’m still getting out there and slowly chipping away at that 100km goal.

3km today. 29km total. 71km to go! πŸ’œ

One walk at a time… even if Bruce stops to sniff absolutely EVERYTHING. 🐢🀣

Day 5 – 26km down, 74km to go! πŸ’œ

Monday 5th Oct
Today started with a little family adventure at Burrows Spit, where we got about 2km in with the kids.

Then we headed over to Riverway, where I managed to sneak in another 4km while the kids did their thing.

So today was another 6km ticked off! πŸ™Œ

I’m really enjoying that this challenge doesn’t have to mean spending hours going for one massive walk. Some days it’s just fitting the kilometres in wherever I can, while still having fun with the kids and getting out and about.

And of course, I’m still doing all of this with my broken toe. πŸ˜‚ At this point, I’m pretty sure the toe has become an unwilling member of Team 100km.

6km today. 26km total. 74km to go! πŸ’œ

Slowly but surely, we’re getting there!

If you’re following along, donating, sharing my fundraiser, cheering me on or want to come join me for a walk β€” thank you! It genuinely keeps me motivated to keep putting one foot in front of the other. πŸ’œ

Day 4 – Sunflowers, family time and another 4km! πŸŒ»πŸ’œ

Sunday 4th Oct
Day 4 of the 100km Epilepsy Walk challenge, and today we swapped the usual walking spots for something a little more colourful!

The whole family headed out to a sunflower farm for a lovely walk, with the very important mission of finding and picking our most beautiful flowers. 🌻

What was meant to be a little family outing turned into a mighty 4km of wandering, exploring and trying to decide which sunflowers deserved to come home with us.

Apparently, flower picking is serious business when you're trying to find THE perfect one! πŸ˜‚

The kids had a lovely time, we got some beautiful flowers, and I managed to sneak another 4km into the challenge.

My moon boot is still making its presence known, but we're slowly getting there!

Today's tally: 4km 🌻
Total distance: 20/100km
Progress: 20% complete! πŸŽ‰

Four days down, 80km to go!

A little reminder that this challenge isn't just about the kilometres. It's about raising awareness, starting conversations and supporting those living with epilepsy.

And if I can combine family adventures, sunflower picking and fundraising along the way, even better! πŸ’œ

Here's to more adventures, more kilometres and hopefully fewer arguments with my moon boot! πŸ˜‚

Day 3 – A cheeky 5km around Kelso Dam! πŸ’œ

Saturday 3rd Oct
Day 3 of the Epilepsy Walk challenge and another 5km ticked off!

Today I took my 1-year-old little sidekick for a walk around Kelso Dam. A lovely little change of scenery, some fresh air and a chance to get those legs moving! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘Ά

Between the moon boot, the toddler and my questionable walking abilities, we're certainly not breaking any speed records! πŸ˜‚

But that's not really the point, is it?

Every kilometre is another opportunity to get out, raise awareness and support those living with epilepsy.

Three days down, plenty more to go! I'm taking it one walk at a time, exploring different spots around Townsville and seeing just how many kilometres this moon boot and I can negotiate before the challenge ends on the 25th. πŸ˜‚

Today's tally: 5km πŸ’œ

Thank you to everyone following along, supporting, sharing and donating. Every little bit helps make a difference!

πŸ•πŸ’œ DAY 2: 4KM, ONE DOG, ZERO PHOTOS!

Friday 2nd Oct
Today I squeezed in a cheeky 4km walk along the Ross River in Suburban with Doggy! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

Unfortunately, there is absolutely no photographic evidence of this adventure because:
1️⃣ Doggy apparently had somewhere VERY important to be.
2️⃣ I was struggling to keep up.
3️⃣ The moon boot and I are still negotiating our relationship. πŸ˜‚

So today's walk was less peaceful scenic stroll and more trying to keep up with a four-legged speed demon while walking like a pirate. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ•

But hey, 4km is 4km! πŸ’ͺ

Every kilometre helps me raise awareness for epilepsy and support the amazing work of Epilepsy Queensland.

πŸ’œ Donate if you can.
πŸ“£ Share to spread awareness.
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Come join me for a walk!

And if anyone has a spare set of wheels for this moon boot, I'm listening. πŸ˜‚

Day 2 done. The boot remains undefeated.

πŸ’œ DAY 1 OF WALKING FOR EPILEPSY β€” LET'S GO! πŸ’œ

Thursday 1st Oct

And we're off! πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

This morning started with a cheeky kilometre with the kiddos before I headed down to the Strand for a beautiful 5km walk. πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ

It was honestly the perfect way to kick things off… until my broken toe reminded me that apparently I am not invincible. πŸ˜‚

After 5km, my toe had officially submitted its resignation.

Me: β€œWe just need to get back to the car.”
Toe: β€œAbsolutely not.”
Me: β€œIt's literally over there.”
Toe: β€œπŸ›΄ E-scooter.”
Me: β€œβ€¦fine.” πŸ˜‚

So Day 1 ended with me cruising back to the car on an e-scooter because apparently walking for epilepsy while walking around with a broken toe wasn't quite chaotic enough.

But here's the important part πŸ‘‡

🧠 EPILEPSY AWARENESS FACT:
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions worldwide, and seizures can happen to anyone, at any age. It isn't just about the dramatic seizures you might see on TV β€” there are many different types of seizures, and they can look very different from person to person.

That's one of the reasons I'm doing this walk. πŸ’œ

I want to use these kilometres to raise awareness, start conversations and raise money to support people living with epilepsy.

So if you're following along, expect a daily mix of:

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ My walking adventures
πŸ˜‚ Questionable decisions and inevitable chaos
🧠 Bite-sized epilepsy facts
πŸ’œ Stories about why awareness and support matter
🎯 And, hopefully, a growing fundraising total!

Follow along for the journey, share my posts to help spread the word, and if you can spare a few dollars, I'd absolutely love your support. Every bit helps.

Day 1: DONE. βœ…
Kilometres: 5km + bonus kid kilometres πŸ‘§πŸ‘¦
Toe status: Questionable. 🦢
E-scooter dignity: Also questionable. πŸ›΄πŸ˜‚
Commitment to the cause: 100%. πŸ’œ

Tomorrow, we do it again. πŸ‘€

Why am I walking for epilepsy?

Thursday 1st Oct

Because epilepsy is about so much more than seizures.

Through my work with Epilepsy Queensland, I've had the opportunity to see just how important support, understanding, education and connection are for people living with epilepsy and their families.

I want to be part of making sure people don't feel like they have to navigate epilepsy alone. I want to help raise awareness, challenge misconceptions and support the incredible work that helps people live well with epilepsy.

For me, this walk is a way to put my support into action. Every step is an opportunity to start a conversation, spread awareness and raise funds that can make a difference.

And if I can do that while sporting a rather fashionable moonboot and a broken toe, well... that's just an added challenge! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘Ÿ

I'm walking for the people behind the statistics, the families behind the diagnoses, and everyone whose lives are touched by epilepsy.

πŸ’œ Because every step counts, and nobody should have to face epilepsy alone.
