💜 Why Team Michaela?

This October, Team Michaela is taking on the Walk for Epilepsy challenge, walking 100 km or more over 25 days to raise awareness and funds for people living with epilepsy and their families.

Epilepsy has been part of my life since I was diagnosed at 13 years old. After seven years seizure free and stable on medication, I recently experienced a breakthrough seizure. It was a confronting reminder of how unpredictable epilepsy can be and just how quickly things we often take for granted, particularly our independence, can change.

But that experience also reminded me that life is far too short, and I wanted to turn a difficult moment into something positive.

That’s how Team Michaela came about. 💜

One thing I particularly want to achieve through this challenge is greater awareness and understanding of epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological condition and everyone’s experience with it is different. For many of us, it is something we manage while continuing to live full, active and independent lives.

Having epilepsy is part of my story, but it does not define who I am.

And Team Michaela isn’t just for people affected by epilepsy. It’s for anyone who wants to walk, support the cause, raise awareness or simply take on a challenge with us.

Whether you walk 100 km, go well beyond it, donate, share our page or cheer us on from the sidelines, you’re helping make a difference.
