I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because...
In past years I have participated in the Walk for Epilepsy in a supporting role for my Partner Jess, who lives with Epilepsy.
This year, she is taking a well deserved rest to grow our little bub while I take a crack at the fundraiser. My goal is to run 200km over 25 days, and raise $1,000!
Jess lives with 'well managed' Epilepsy, and has been seizure free for 9 years. The invisible part that not many people in her life see is the daily ritual and work that goes into keeping things that way. From medication to sleep to managing stress as much as possible, all while knowing that one day she might just not be able to get up and do something despite her best efforts.Â
For partners of people living with Epilepsy, you try to learn how and where to add support.
You figure out through trial and error that being too careful or protective can be stifling and overbearing.
You learn that the best thing you can do is be prepared for the worst case, but you never know where you'll be or when that will happen.
You know that while 9 years seizure free is huge, every single day is its own battle and should be celebrated.
But this year, I've realised that Jess is setting up our family to have the strong and bravest role model for what you can do when life challenges you, and you need to decide if you step up to the plate or not.
I want to raise money and make a difference for people living with epilepsy, and those closest to them. Please help me by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button.Â
