My target 35 kms

I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because...

TLDR:

I turned 35 this year, and my seizures usually present as Deja Vu with fear/dread, a (never real) "prediction", and they're pretty spooky.

So, given spooky season lines up with this challenge, my goal is to walk at least 35km during October, ideally dressed in something spooky themed 👻!

Deja Vu is Spooky Too!

With help from Grammarly:

I am incredibly fortunate to have avoided regular convulsive seizures, but my experience with epilepsy has still been life changing. It's crucial to raise awareness about the less visible forms of epilepsy, which can still have serious consequences if left untreated.

Thanks to the understanding and support of my partner and the other incredible people around me, I have been able to lead a relatively normal life, despite the changes and challenges since my diagnosis.

Let's walk together to increase awareness for all presentations of Epilepsy.

My Updates

Best attempt yet

Tuesday 29th Oct
Okay so I didn't quite hit 35km by the 25th, I was getting pretty close but I ended up with a couple of days of funky hormones and what we think were some little focal-awares, or at least some cheeky brain activity 🌩️🧠

BUT thanks to all the amazing humans who donated even in these tough times, between the team page and this one, we absolutely smashed the donation goal I set this year!

Thanks again to everyone who donated, this is such an important cause and it impacts so many people. Your donations were a huge drive in pushing myself to get out and walk more consistently than I have since my big cluster at the end of '22.
It's also encouraged me to actually promote the event a little more and discuss it with more people, which helps create awareness about the different, often insidious ways Epilepsy can manifest over a lifetime.

Week 1

Monday 7th Oct
Started out the week a bit too sick to go for walks, but I've making up for lost time since then
A walk every day for 5 days doesn't seem like much, but it's the most I've pushed myself to get out of the house for the sake of basically anything in the ~2.5 years since I was diagnosed!
