I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because as a parent of a young adult who has lived with epilepsy since 4 years of age, I see firsthand the impacts this condition has on her daily life and how it becomes more difficult as she moves into adulthood and what she has to navigate every day.  She can’t drive because of her epilepsy, she needs to take daily medications that gives her side effects of feeling irritable and fatigued, she has trouble finding suitable work, she has suffered injuries when having a seizure and it takes days for her to recover from a seizure.  I want my daughter to have the freedom all young people should enjoy, yet I worry every time she leaves the house hoping she won’t have a seizure and if she does that some kind sole will come to her aid.

I want to raise awareness and raise funds that will help provide support to those living with epilepsy such as my daughter and the 250,000 Australia’s just like her.

Please help me by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button. The more people that know about the walk, the greater the impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

My Updates

It takes a village

Monday 13th Oct
Today I walked ZERO kms. Steve is now in hospital, so I’m hanging my boots up for the moment while I focus on my family. But I’ve had friends reach out to carry the baton and walk for me while I can’t which I am so incredibly grateful for. So my Walk for Epilepsy challenge will be a village effort. Each km they walk I’ll record and post an update - I hope those who have supported me on this journey so far understand. Xx

Slow day today

Sunday 12th Oct
I only managed 2kms today as I had to focus on looking after Steve as he’s still unwell.
Hoping to still reach my target kms somehow.

Slow start today …but I got there

Saturday 11th Oct
It’s been a slow start today as my husband isn’t feeling well again today - still suffering side effects from the anaphylactic reaction he suffered earlier this week - so it’s been a walk up and down the driveway to start my walk today. Reminds me of lockdown. 1.7km done let’s see what else I can get done today.

UPDATE: Zahra and I were able to get out this afternoon while Mia and Indi kept an eye on the patient and I was able to get to 5kms for the day. 💜🐕

I am truely overwhelmed and thankful for the wonderful support and donations I’ve received. Thank you everyone.

True Support

Thursday 9th Oct
Today I passed the baton onto my dear friend Sharon Stephen’s. We had a lovely day planned of doing a walk along the Portarlington beach together for Walk for Epilepsy however due to a terrible medical error I’m in emergency with my husband who has suffered a severe allergic reaction that could have been avoided. Thank goodness he is through the worst of it and it hasn’t triggered a seizure as he too lives with epilepsy.
So Sharon did the walk for me and I am counting the 5.8kms she walked in my total as this is what true support looks like.
💜 Thank you Sharon 💜

Please donate if you are able to and a very heartfelt thank you to all those who have donated.
