I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy because...

Ā I’ve signed up to Walk for Epilepsy, walking 100km in 25 days during October!

Ā I’m taking on this challenge in honor of my son, Hunter. He inspires me every day with his strength and courage.

I’m walking to raise awareness and support for families who are touched by epilepsy.Ā Ā Every step I take is for Hunter, and for others who may be walking their own path quietly and bravely.

If you’d like to support me, or just cheer me on, I’d be so grateful.

I hope to raise money and make a difference for people living with epilepsy. There are many different ways you can help:Ā

  1. Hit the ā€˜donate’ button if you are able!
  2. The more people who know about the walk the greater the impact, so please spread the word by sharing the pageĀ
  3. Better yet, sign up and walk, run, or ride you own 100km in 25 days during October for the 1 in 25 people living with epilepsy
  4. Learn what to do if somebody has a seizure. You, the community, keep our loved ones safe when we cannot be there.Ā

Thanks in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

My Updates

This is why we walk.

Friday 24th Oct
It’s done. 101 kms walked in 24 days,. One extra kilometer, one day early, because I wanted to have one up on epilepsy. This is what epilepsy looks like. This was an 18 y.o. young man who should have been out having fun and doing the one thing he wanted more than anything, that we take for granted - driving. In 3 weeks he has to go through this again. October is the month we walk to raise money and awareness for epilepsy. Our October also included 2 x seizures 1 x fractured and dislocated shoulder Overnight stays away from home Day trips to other towns for appointments PET scans Multiple MRIs X-rays Ultrasounds Countless GP appointments Neurosurgeon consult Orthopedic surgeon consult Physiotherapy And the news in 3 weeks there will be major brain surgery. All because of epilepsy. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, donations and encouragement, I can’t tell you how far it carries us. Please. Educate yourself in fist aide and particularly epilepsy first aide. It might save somebody’s life šŸ’œšŸ’œšŸ’œ

Gratitude

Tuesday 21st Oct
Motivation restored! Took my little 4-legged bestie for two walks today and one just for me. Feeling grateful for literally everything and without being corny, just grateful for life.

Pushing through the hard times.

Monday 20th Oct
The last couple of days have been tough, really tough, to find the motivation. The aim of Walk for Epilespy in October is to raise epilepsy awareness, and this month epilepsy has definitely made us aware of its presence in our house. It’s so unpredictable - sometimes we’ll go five months between seizures, other times only fourteen days, like yesterday. We still haven’t had the chance to review Hunter’s dislocated/fractured shoulder, and now he’s had another one, adding to the pain. Luckily my little dog eagerly greeting me each evening is enough to get the first kilometre done. I drop her home, think of everyone who’s supported us and why I’m walking, and remind myself it’s only 3km to go, even when every part of me today just wants sleep. Last night I decided to stick it to epilepsy and walked an extra kilometre. Tonight I added two. Rewarded with the most beautiful view. 81km down. 5 days to go...

Double donation day = WOW!

Friday 17th Oct
I started today on $368 with a goal to make my target of $500. That goal was smashed by 9:10am and the support continued all day.Ā

Hunter made the donation to get me over the line for $1000Ā and tonight we end the day on $1680!

My heart is full, thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart 🫶

2 days away, 7 hours travel, assessments, scans & appointments

Friday 17th Oct
Epilepsy means… Long days, long drives. Missing work and uni, travelling 3.5 hours each way regularly for scans, appointments, reviews and life-changing decisions. But Wednesday something happened that reminded me, in the midst of all of this, that there can be quiet moments of magic - a beautiful encounter shared between my young man and an old man, a fellow brain warrior, who has also been through his own private wars. In the waiting room of the basment radioactive bunker, they connected in a way words cant explain, through a shared, special understanding only they have. Made his day and ours šŸ’• There was to be no walking today, I needed a rest but turns out when I checked my app I did 2km just inside the hospital šŸ˜†

Half way!!

Sunday 12th Oct
Only 12 days in and I’ve hit the half way mark, yep, 50 kms done šŸ‘Š I use run keeper to keep track of my walks. The little walk each day is with Daisy Dog, the other is just for me. Hunter told me to push myself so I slowed down and went further today, which did wonders for me 🫶

My favourite time of day to walk…

Saturday 11th Oct
I’m definitely a sunset-kinda-walker šŸ™ŒšŸ’œ

10 days in - it’s been eventful…

Friday 10th Oct
Day 10 and what a 10 days it has been. A seizure on day 5 that caused a fractured shoulder.Ā
On the upside, 40kms done and a new sponsor today = 73% of my goal raised.
Thank you everyone šŸ™šŸ’œšŸ™Œ

First day October = first walk!

Wednesday 1st Oct
