I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy around Australia because...
I’m walking this October to support people, in particular children, living with epilepsy. In March this year my son Frankie was diagnosed with infantile spasms (west syndrome), which was treated successfully but then relapsed in June this year. We have not had seizure control since. When he relapsed he was having 100 or more seizures a day some days. After so many heavy medications, we have better control and are adjusting to what life is like with a child who has epilepsy. We believe this will likely be lifelong for Frankie.
We have learnt so much so quickly about this awful condition, especially that there is so much that is still unknown about epilepsy, and treatment options are few, and not always successful.
I’m walking to raise money for more research, in the desperate hope that during Frankie’s lifetime, we find a more permanent and impactful treatment for him and so many others, so that he can live a full and happy life without the impacts of this condition.
