I’m taking part in Walk for Epilepsy around Australia because I would like to raise awareness
It was just like any other day in 2007, I woke up and started to get ready for school, before too long I dropped to the floor and lost complete control of my body. Luckily, I was still conscious, so I slowly stood back up and called out to my parents who came in and drove me to the hospital. Within the next 2 hours I was diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.
So, why now? Well, during my life I have witnessed two colleagues experience seizures within the workplace and in both instances the people around them were scared and didn’t know how to react or what to do. I have also experienced a seizure in the workplace and was fortunate enough to have someone who knew what to do during the situation by my side. I would like to spread awareness of epilepsy and educate people about how to respond to seizures. No one should feel helpless or scared when witnessing a seizure; knowledge can make all the difference.
Participating in the Walk for Epilepsy is my way of contributing to this cause. I’ve been blessed with the support of doctors and specialists over the years, and I want to pay it forward by helping others understand and manage epilepsy better.
My goals is to walk/run 100km during the Walk for Epilepsy, which take place from October 1st to 25th. It’s a challenge I’m taking on not just for myself but for everyone affected by epilepsy. Your support can make a significant impact, whether it’s through donations, sharing my story, or spreading awareness.
