Sam’s Ramble

We've created this team because..

When we start walking for this event, Sam will have just turned one! That also means 6 months will have passed since what was undoubtedly the hardest weeks of my life.

It was such a normal day when my little almost 6mo started having seizures. Every minute for a week I held my breath with fear as it got worse. Then a medication combination started to work, and I took a breath, but still every moment he cried, got too tired, or pulled at his ear, or shook his head I worried. Thankfully, his seizures have been completely controlled, he is a happy thriving boy, and my fear shows up less. 

Looking back, I just had no idea about how complex Epilepsy was. The breadth of causes, the long path of diagnosis, the process of finding a treatment that worked. When I look back I am so deeply grateful for:

- Our family and friends (near and far)

- The Neurosciences and Nursing teams at the Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH)

- Other parents of children during our QCH stay who were so caring, understanding and positive, despite grappling incredibly challenging situations themselves 

- The volume and quality of information and support accessible through Epilepsy Queensland, Epilepsy Australia and similar organisations world-wide.

We would like to pay forward some of the love and support we experienced this year by taking part in Walk for Epilepsy and raising money for Epilepsy Queensland.
