Spooky Sparky Skeletons

We've created this team because..

I am incredibly fortunate to have avoided regular convulsive seizures, but my experience with epilepsy has still been life-changing. It's crucial to raise awareness about the less visible forms of epilepsy, which can still have serious consequences if left untreated.

When most people hear "Epilepsy" or "seizure" they imagine someone convulsing, stiffening, or blanking out completely. It's less commonly known that seizures can be completely invisible from the outside, and even present as seemingly normal experiences like deja vu, jamais vu, panic, nightmares, the list goes on.

People can live their entire lives not knowing they have Epilepsy because of this, and the impact that invisible forms of Epilepsy can have on a person's day-to-day life is severely under-acknowledged in both scientific literature and general conversation around Epilepsy. What's more, these types of seizures may not even show up on a surface EEG, leading to under-diagnosis or incorrect treatments, with many being diagnosed with Psychological Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) and receiving only psychological treatment, causing a feeling of imposter syndrome in many who experience this.

This October, let's walk together to increase awareness for all presentations of Epilepsy, even the ones you can't see.
